Today I went into he Vault and discovered a copy of The Archer of Paradise, By Reva Stanley on the shelf (Not out of the ordinary, I had sen it there before). A Very Collectible biography of Parley P Pratt. Someone had grab the book by the head of the spine and torn the head down both sides of the spine a couple of inches. They basically ruined a $150 book. They did not even bother to let us know. This is a real problem in the Rare books and antiques business. People breaking things and not reporting it.Are people really that dis-honest?What do you do to protect against it. Put everything behind glass and make them ask to see it? There has to be a better way!
