Larry Strecker Hodgkinson 1934 ~ 2008

Larry Strecker Hodgkinson, 74, passed away Nov. 24, 2008, surrounded by members of his family. He was born October 4, 1934, in Vernal, Utah and was the eldest child of Harlend Edward and Hedwig Clara Hodgkinson. Larry graduated as valedictorian from Uintah High School and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree from BYU. He spent two years honorably serving his country through the United States Army and was stationed in Heidelberg, Germany. Larry married Jane Odekirk, but subsequently divorced. They had one daughter (Debra). He married his loving wife Dona and settled in Orem, Utah. They had three children (Andrew, Lori, Steven). Larry was a true renaissance man. His interests and hobbies included his award-winning artwork, restoring antiques, jazz music, swap meets, camping, fishing, reading, fine watches, good food, Utah Jazz basketball, and BYU football. Larry was also a life-long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He found great joy in serving faithfully in his callings, particularly as a home teacher and as a secretary of his High Priests Quorum. Above all, Larry was devoted to his family, particularly his grandchildren, whom he loved dearly. He lived a rich life, filled with selflessness and service and was an exemplary husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 46 years; his children and their spouses, Debra Jensen, Andrew (Colleen) Hodgkinson, Lori (Tom) Wilson, and Steven Hodgkinson; his grandchildren, Julia, Tyzack, Devin, Alexander, Paul, Samuel, and Hannah; and his great grandchildren, Raegen, Max, and Kenadee. Larry was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held Sat., November 29, 2008, 11 a.m. in the Sharon Park 1st Ward Chapel, 300 North 100 East, Orem, Utah. Family and friends may call on Friday, November 28, 2008 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Walker Sanderson Funeral Home, 646 E. 800 N., Orem, Utah or on Saturday morning at the church from 9:45-10:45 a.m. Interment will be in the Orem City Cemetery. I remember Larry. We often called him the Volkswagon Van Man. I've always had trouble remembering names. He was always happy to see you and always had a good deal in the VW for you too. I will miss him. I wish I had had a chance to see Larry one last time.
